Amazon FBA fees in 2026: every fee, with current rates
Rates as of 8 August 2026, US marketplace, sourced from Amazon's published fee schedules (linked below). Amazon revises fees during the year — always confirm against Amazon's own pricing pages before committing to an order.
Selling through FBA, you pay Amazon in four separate places: a selling plan subscription, a referral fee on every sale, a fulfillment fee on every unit shipped, and monthly storage on everything sitting in a warehouse. On a typical standard-size product these add up to 30–40% of the sale price. This page lists each fee with the current US rates.
1. Selling plan fees
| Plan | Fee | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Individual | $0.99 per item sold | Fewer than ~40 sales a month |
| Professional | $39.99 per month | Everyone else — flat fee regardless of volume |
The breakeven is 40 units a month. Above that, Professional is cheaper, and it's required for tools like bulk listing and Automate Pricing.
2. Referral fees by category
Amazon's commission on each sale, charged as a percentage of the total sales price (item price + shipping + gift wrap). Most categories pay 15%, with a $0.30 minimum per item. The full current table:

3. FBA fulfillment fees by size tier
A flat per-unit charge for picking, packing, shipping, customer service, and returns handling. It depends on three things: the product's size tier, its shipping weight, and its price band (under $10, $10–$50, over $50). Skip the table lookup if you like — the FBA fee calculator finds your rate from these same tables automatically. Current non-peak rates (January 15 – October 14, 2026), excluding apparel:

Four adjustments to know about before trusting a rate-card number:
- Fuel surcharge. From April 17, 2026, a 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge is added to every fulfillment fee. It is not in the table above — multiply by 1.035.
- Peak season. October 15, 2026 – January 14, 2027 uses higher holiday rates (roughly $0.20–$3 more per unit depending on size). The fee is set by ship date, not order date.
- Dimensional weight. For most tiers, shipping weight is the greater of unit weight and dimensional weight (L×W×H ÷ 139). Small standard and 150+ lb items use unit weight only.
- Apparel and dangerous goods have separate, higher rate cards (apparel ~$0.20–$0.30 more per unit; hazmat ~$1 more).
4. Monthly inventory storage fees
Charged per cubic foot on your daily average inventory volume. Base rates:
| Period | Standard-size | Oversize |
|---|---|---|
| January – September (off-peak) | $0.78 / cu ft | $0.56 / cu ft |
| October – December (peak) | $2.40 / cu ft | $1.40 / cu ft |
The Q4 jump — roughly 3× — is the fee sellers most often forget to model. On top of the base rate, a storage utilization surcharge ($0.23–$1.88/cu ft) applies to established Professional sellers storing more than 25 cu ft whose inventory turns over slower than 22 weeks of supply. New sellers, Individual sellers, and small volumes are exempt.
5. Other fees that catch sellers out
- Low-inventory-level fee — charged per shipped unit when a standard-size or bulky product's stock falls below 28 days of supply relative to demand. Running lean has a cost too.
- Aged-inventory surcharge — an escalating per-unit or per-cubic-foot surcharge on stock stored longer than about 6 months, on top of monthly storage.
- Inbound placement service fee — a per-unit charge on shipments into the network, varying with how many locations you split inbound across.
- Returns processing fee — applies to high-return-rate products and to categories like apparel and shoes.
- Overmax handling fee — extra-large items over 96″ on the longest side (or 130″ length + girth) pay a handling surcharge on top of fulfillment.
- Media closing fee — a flat $1.80 per item on books, DVDs, music, software, and video, in addition to the referral fee.
A worked example
A Home & Kitchen product selling at $24.99, large standard size, 1.2 lb shipping weight, sold in July (off-peak):
| Fee | How it's calculated | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Referral fee | 15% × $24.99 | $3.75 |
| Fulfillment fee | Large standard, 1–1.25 lb, $10–$50 band | $5.04 |
| Fuel surcharge | 3.5% × $5.04 | $0.18 |
| Storage (per unit) | 0.05 cu ft × $0.78, ~1 month on shelf | $0.04 |
| Total Amazon fees | 36% of the sale price | $9.01 |
And that's before your own costs — the product itself, freight, prep, advertising, and returns. Frequently asked questions
How much are Amazon FBA fees in total?
For a typical standard-size product, roughly 30–40% of the sale price: referral fee (usually 15%), fulfillment fee (a few dollars by size and weight), and storage. The worked example above lands at 36%.
What is the difference between the referral fee and the fulfillment fee?
The referral fee is Amazon's commission — a percentage of the total price, paid by every seller. The fulfillment fee is a flat per-unit charge for Amazon shipping the order, and only applies to FBA. Selling FBM, you pay referral but not fulfillment.
When do peak fulfillment fees apply?
October 15, 2026 through January 14, 2027. The rate is set by when the unit ships, not when it's ordered. Non-peak rates resume January 15.
What is the 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge?
From April 17, 2026, Amazon adds 3.5% on top of FBA fulfillment fees in the US. The published rate cards don't include it, so a $5.04 fee is really about $5.22.
How do I work out my actual profit after all FBA fees?
Take your sale price, subtract the fees on this page plus your landed cost, ad spend, and a returns reserve. The FBA profit calculator does the whole per-unit calculation as you type — free, no signup.
